These ways can be done whether you are living in an urban homesteading environment, rural homesteading environment or if you are trying to create a more mobile type environment. Though the latter is the most uncommon form of homesteading it is still doable in certain situations. Here are a few ways that homesteading can be green.

Organic Gardening

Organic gardening is a green concept that centers on the way that we produce and harvest our food. Organic food is generally grown with no chemicals, no pesticides and only from Earth-friendly processes. Organic gardening is part of homesteading. Regardless if the individual has a rural homestead or an urban Homestead organic gardening can fit into that lifestyle quickly and easily. The mere concept of organic gardening is green and therefore when mixed with homesteading remains green.

Energy Conservation

When someone chooses to homestead regardless of their location, they will find that energy conservation is part of the homesteading process. There are new ways and innovative ways to conserve energy and to use different forms of energy to create the kind of lifestyle the individual wants. The energy conservation and alternative usage methods used in homesteading are also used in green living.

Sustainability

By creating sustainable living environments a homesteader is by default creating a greener environment. Sustainability and bringing sustainability to various areas, cultures and lifestyles is part of the green living concepts and part of the go green experience. Sustainability is not just within the homestead but also stretches out to businesses, communities and on a global scale as well.

Land Conservation

Land conservation is an aspect of homesteading that is not generally thought of by individuals who are outside of the concept. The truth of the matter is that homesteading allows individuals to get the most out of their land and conserve the land as best as they can. This is due to crops, small farm animals and the concept of making the homestead sustainable. The land conservation is especially true for individuals living in an urban homesteading environment and trying to get the most out of their limited space. The processes of getting the most out of the limited space result in conserving land area which results in a green living concept of land conservation.

    We just moved onto a 40 acre farm last September to live a more sustainable life. I got 15 chickens this Spring! Next I am getting goats and a cow!
