shutterstock 42140194 300x200 Four Ways to Decrease Gas PricesGas prices are hovering between four dollars a gallon and six dollars a gallon in various parts of the United States. These high prices will likely increase over the next several months due to the massive fire at the Chevron refinery. The West Coast refinery saw heavy fire damage during the week of August 8, 2012. With the potential rising prices in many areas the need to lower personal gas prices is even greater. There are four steps that you can take to legitimately decrease gas prices.

Fuel Perks

Fuel Perks of the program offered in the southern United States through the grocery store chain Winn-Dixie. Winn-Dixie has coupled with Shell gas station to offer a program that works for customers on both gas prices and grocery prices. The plan is simple. Customers who purchase items from the Fuel Perks list located in the grocery flyer as well as Fuel Perks located within the store will receive $.05-$.25 or more off each gallon of gas they purchase. You must have a Fuel Perks card that you can obtain for free from Winn-Dixie and you must have a participating Shell gas station in your area. The Fuel Perks Are good for the next time you get gas and do not carry over to other gas purchases. A normal customer can save anywhere from $.25 a gallon to two dollars or more gallon depending on the sales that take advantage of and the amount of the products they purchase. It should Be noted that most of the products on the Fuel Perks list are already on sale for that week.

Giant/Martin’s Fuel Rewards

The Giant and Martin’s grocery stores located in Maryland, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia offer a similar plan to the fuel perks plan. You will receive rewards for purchasing certain items located within the flyer and in the store and these amounts will carry over at per gallon rate on your next gasoline purchase. You do not necessarily have to buy food items and in some cases can buy gift cards that are listed on these gas reward sales. The gift cards can be used at other stores.

Bi-Lo

The Bi-Lo company also offers a similar fuel rewards program available in South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia and Tennessee.

Roundy’s

Roundy’s is specific to the Wisconsin and Chicago area. However, there fuel rewards program works the same as the previously mentioned programs.

It should be noted that each of these fuel programs offers different items each week that are on sale for that week and also give fuel perks or fuel reward amounts. These fuel rewards can be used at the pump with the proper card. You must have your Fuel Perks, Roundy’s or other gas reward card in order to get the discount on your gas. Gas stations cannot pull up your rewards card with your phone number and must see the actual card in order for you to participate.
