Green Baby Items

While it is great that you want to conserve water, energy and fuel, you should also keep in mind the health off your children. Your baby uses a wide variety of items every day, ranging from body wash to their diapers and clothing, but do you know what ingredients are being used? There are actually many types of natural and organic baby items that can be considered green due to not being made with chemicals or pesticides during the farming process and containing only natural ingredients.

Cloth Diapers and Wipes

The first type of green baby items are diapers and wipes. Cloth diapers are never made with chemicals plus they are re-usable making them a popular green item. Disposable diapers make a large negative impact on the environment as it can take 200-500 years to decompose. Cloth diapers are used over and over again for multiple children. If you use disposable diapers, your baby goes through about 6,000 diapers! That is a lot of diapers for just one child. Cloth diapers not only save you money in the long run and are better for your baby, but they’re better for the environment as well. You can also get organic cloth wipes that are also re-usable.

Feeding

The first green and natural option in feeding your baby is breastfeeding. It doesn’t cost anything, is natural, healthier for your baby, and has absolutely no impact on the environment. However you do use items when breastfeeding, so you should be sure they are made of natural ingredients. This includes the breast pads, nipple creams, and bottles. Be sure they are either re-usable or made of biodegradable materials.

Green Organic Clothing

The clothes your baby wears can also be natural, green and organic. A quick search online will help you find organic baby clothing not made with any type of chemicals or pesticides. Another way to go green with baby clothing is by buying it used or in consignment. This keeps you for purchasing new clothing and helping to reduce your carbon footprint. Plus you will save money and help another family buy new clothing for their toddler or older children. This is a win-win situation for everyone involved.

Choose Whole Foods

When it is time for your baby to go from breast (or bottle) to solid foods, choose whole and organic foods to be green and environmentally conscious. While it can be convenient to buy the little glass jars of baby food, it’s expensive and terrible on the environment. Even if you recycle the glass jars, you are still supporting the manufacturing of them. Instead, feed your baby soft, whole foods like mashed up banana and avocado.
