Usually, the first things that come to mind are solar panels, organic foods and reducing a carbon footprint. The truth is that, for many people, the GoGreen lifestyle starts with internal health. Begin connected to the Earth and the world around you through spirituality and meditation is a great way to begin to see the world through green glasses. So how does yoga help a GoGreen healthy lifestyle?

Organic Awareness

When you are practicing a healthy activity, like yoga, you become more aware of the food you take into your body.  The kind of foods that give you energy, keep your body regulated and keep you active are generally the same foods that are grown on organic farms. You start to eat better, eat locally and in a full circle of awareness you end up supporting organic foods and farmers.

Recycling Awareness

You wouldn’t think that yoga would bring on a recycling awareness but it does. The first step in the recycling awareness through yoga process is through water. Your intake of water when practicing yoga will increase dramatically. You become aware of how many water bottles you are going through and you tend to find ways to increase the water intake in your life but decrease the water bottles taking up space in landfills. You switch to a reusable water bottle which are generally made from recycled material. You may also find the yoga mats and other yoga gear are made from recycled products that keep the Earth green.

World Awareness

Through meditative practices you begin to become aware of the people and the world around you. Peace in your life makes you want to bring peace to others and the cycle of peace continues throughout the world. Part of bringing that peace is educating yourself on the worlds issues around you. This leads to understanding of poverty levels and living conditions that can be helped through the use of greener practices like better water supplies, solar power in rural areas and organic farms to help sustainablility.
