How to Create a Green Holiday School Party for Kids
How to Create a Green Holiday School Party for Kids
Most elementary and middle schools will have a holiday party before students are let out for holiday break. In most cases, especially with elementary schools, the teachers or the school board may ask for parents to assist with holiday school party planning and with items for the holiday school party. This is a great time for parents to volunteer with the school and volunteer their children's classrooms to offer some green living lessons as well as incorporate this lifestyle. Here are some ways to create a green holiday school party for kids.
Tell a Story
Try to find a story that is age-appropriate for the children in the class, and read that story as part of the holiday party. If possible incorporate all aspects of the party into the story to create a green living memory that the children can take home with them. For especially young children such as kindergarten and first graders, the idea of reading a story and sharing the concept through a story than through visual aids is a great idea for children to retain the information.
Incorporate a Theme
Do not stop with the story. Incorporate a theme for the green living holiday into the school party. Make sure the theme is age-appropriate and the children can enjoy the same. For example, if you choose to tell a story about the environment you may want to decorate the room in the environment that is in the story you're telling. This will allow children to visualize the environment and visualize the story as well. Incorporate themes, party favors, decorations, food and anything the theme can transition to.
Incorporate the Food
Incorporating the food into the green holiday school party is a key element to help children retain the idea of green living. For example, if your story is about the idea of using solar power then you may want to use a solar oven to make the cupcakes or another aspect of the food. Set the solar oven earlier in the day so the children can see the end results or watch the result throughout the day before the party. Try to keep the food theme basic as well so that the visualization takes on a whole other aspect. The idea is to tie everything into green living through written, visual and other themes.
Holiday Party Favors
Create or have the children create holiday party favors for the green living concept that is discussed in the theme for the day in the book for the day. The party favors that they create or the party favors that you create for them are the final step in tying the concept together and bringing everything together for the children to remember.
